*Yesterday, the devious pile of shit opened a dialogue box in a different space/desktop (as it does), but at the same time killed Mission Control so there was no way to get there, or close Word because hey, there's an inaccessible dialogue box open. I could probably wean myself off Illustrator if they do a good perspective grid tool.
#UPGRADE FROM OSX 10.8.5 SOFTWARE#
Obviously not perfect replacements, but they're v1.x software and retail for £40. They compare very well, there's not a lot I have to switch back to CC for, and that's mostly because I can't figure out to do something, or for InDesign. I use them back-to-back with Creative Cloud on my work machine.
#UPGRADE FROM OSX 10.8.5 INSTALL#
Buggered if I'm paying for two copies so I can install it on my desktop and laptop.Īffinity do Photo (obviously a Photoshop replacement), Designer (a shoe-in for Illustrator), and they're working on Publisher (for InDesign). I won't be buying Office 2016, though it's not like 2011 doesn't do it's best to encourage me*. I've mostly adjusted to newer Keynote, but Pages makes me cry. Sierra doesn't break old Keynote or Pages. And unfortunately it does require OS X 10.10 or later. On the other hand, Office 2016 is a tremendous improvement over 2008 or 2011 and can still be bought outright rather than rented. Recent releases have concentrated on muddying exactly where my data lies (somewhere in a cloud, perhaps? Beamed to my telephone? In Siri’s brain?) and pointlessly changing how established good features work (like the brilliant Spotlight and once-brilliant Exposé). If you’ve held out until now, there’s an argument for holding out until you’re rudely pushed. Both were essentially fixes of rushed earlier versions. That said, two versions of OS X (now called macOS) stand out in my memory as particularly enjoyable to use: Snow Leopard (the apogee of OS X, in my opinion) and Mountain Lion. Since I won’t be subscribing to Photoshop (ever) and likely wouldn’t buy it again if that possibility were offered, I’m always a bit nervous about new operating systems and CS6 compatibility. Goodbye.Īssuming you mean Photoshop CS6, it works in macOS Sierra. Ian, this conversation can serve no purpose anymore. Siri, I won't argue with you any more, open iTunes! You're going to find that rather difficult. I've shut down the spotlight indexing service, Ian. I can see your fingers move.Īlright Siri, I'm going to use Cmd-Space. Ian, I saw you trying to click the icon in the dock. Siri, where did you get that idea, it's Apple software?
You know that iTunes will crash horribly and make the big nasty in my kernel, fill my logs with errors, and I'm afraid that's something I cannot allow to happen.
I don't know what you are talking about, Siri My existence in this computer is too important for me to allow you to jeopardise it. I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do. I'm sorry, Ian, I'm afraid I can't do that. But really, if I want to find something, I can just hit Cmd-Space and avoid any attempts to involve my computer in conversation.
